Al Jaasi

THE RACEHORSE
Foaled in 1991, AL JAASI is a magnificently proportioned stallion. He was a precocious 2YO and won two of his three starts at that age - firstly on debut at Randwick over 1000 metres on 25/4/94, then he backed up 19 days later at his next start to defeat 14 rivals at Doomben over 1200 metres, after starting from barrier 14 in the 15 horse field. His only unplaced run at 2YO was still a good effort, when he finished mid-field to Aragen in the Group 1 Sires Produce Stakes at Eagle Farm.Whilst he was unsuccessful at 3YO, AL JAASI did run 4th to Magic Winner at Canterbury in the Listed Eskimo Prince Handicap over 1100 metres. He was retired to stud at the end of his 3YO year.

HIS SIRE LINE
AL JAASI is by Kendor - a dual Group 1 winner in the country of his birth - France. Kendor was named "Head of the 1988 French 2YO Free Handicap" after his stellar racetrack performances at that age. Kendor was named "Champion French 2YO Sire" of 1996, a year he finished third on the overall sires list in that country.

Born in 1986, Kendor was sired by champion, internationally renowned sire, Kenmare.

HIS DAM LINE
AL JAASI's dam is the top class Group 1 winning mare Leica Show. Born in New Zealand in 1971 the daughter of Showdown and Bois Roussel's granddaughter Miss Valeica, Leica Show was named top filly of the 1974-1975 racing season Free Handicap. In her illustrious racetrack career she won the 1974 VRC Oaks defeating Cap d'Antibes and Rainburst. Leica Show also won such quality races as the Wakeful Stakes at Caulfield (Group 2), the William Reid Stakes at Moonee Valley (was Group 2 when Leica Show won it, but is now called The Australia Stakes and has Group 1 status), Alister Clark Stakes (Group 2) and the STC Canterbury Stakes in Sydney at Group 2 level. Leica Show also ran two second placings at Group 1 level - in the 1976 Newmarket to Toy Show and the 1974 One Thousand Guineas to Sufficient.

As a broodmare, Leica Show has produced not only AL JAASI, but also 1984 Group 1 Adelaide Goodwood Handicap winner Leica Planet, which had earlier run 2nd in the 1983 Epsom at Randwick to Cool River.

Dual Group 1 winner Pharaoh (Doncaster and Chipping Norton Stakes) who earned $1,998,680 in his illustrious racetrack career is out of AL JAASI's half sister Chateau Leica. That mare Chateau Leica was a non-winning daughter of Century and Leica Show.

As advised earlier, Leica Show's dam Miss Valeica is a granddaughter of champion stallion Bois Roussel. Miss Valeica's third dam Lightmore is a daughter of Australian champion racehorse Chatham.

PROGENY TO DATE
AL JAASI is already a proven sire. He commenced stud duties in 1995 and has been able to achieve a winners-to-runners ratio around 70%. Apart from producing winners in Australia, he has also thrown winners in Hong Kong, Malaysia and Macau.

AL JAASI has produced 2YO winners who historically improve when given time as 3YO and 4YO's and the average winning distance of his progeny in Australia is 1233 metres.

AL JAASI has produced numerous city winners all over Australia - far too many to list. But it would be fair to say his best known winners to date would be Sydney winners like Kenwest, Al's Flyer, Dumbfounded, Zanzara Bank, Diavolo, Ring A Star, Chicken Soup, Miss Jasmin, Claudia, Park Life, Royal Mecene. His progeny have found their way interstate and have enjoyed metropolitan success via the talented Bella Chelle winning in Melbourne and Sam's Dream being a two times Eagle Farm winner.
