When the Queensland Racing Industry is assessed, the owners of Burwood Stud
can hold their heads high for offering breeders agistment rates and stallion service fees at prices which
any current or prospective breeder can afford. The history of Australian Racing is filled with wonderful
stories of racetrack champions who were not sired by expensive stallions nor were
they out of former great race mares. With the highest stallion service fee being A$5,500,
and with stallions whose racetrack feats are exemplary, there is no doubt that
Burwood Stud is one of Queenslands premier harness racing studs,
and will attract an increasing clientele in the forthcoming years.
The commercially viable, proven harness racing stallion standing at Burwood Stud, is
ULTIMATE FALCON (USA) 1:47.8 - (the fastest horse ever imported into Australasia (as of 31/1/2004)
and winner of A$530,000). He is joined by the exciting WESTERN EDITION - a brilliant pacer who rated 1.51.6 at
3YO - and who is by champion stallion Western Hanover, out of a champion broodmare Perfect Profile.
In 2009 the classy and ultra consistent American born pacer MR AVIATOR 1:49.2, a representative of the No Nukes sireline via
Western Hanover debuted at Burwood Stud - whilst 2009 also saw the return to Australia of sought after stallion CAMMIBEST 1:50,
a now proven and successful sire both in North America and Australia.
Three thoroughbred stallions - 1) Catbird's son COLLATE, along with 2)
MASKED ASSASSIN, the multiple Group winning son of the Golden Slipper winner Danzero and 3)
Moon Rocket's city race winning son DUSTY MOON, complete the stallion roster at Burwood Stud.
Purchased in 1978 by Noel and Christine Denning, Burwood Stud has always been a
family owned and operated business and originally commenced operations as a spelling and
agistment property. An ever increasing client base ultimately led to existing clients
requesting Burwood Stud to commercially stand
stallions, and in 1985, harness racing stallions commenced duties at the Stud. Between those
formative years and now, numerous racetrack winners have either been bred and/or reared at
Burwood Stud.
Apart from the 1200 acres of fertile, basalt and limestone country which makes up
Burwood Stud, a guaranteed all-year-round supply of quality lucerne hay assures cost effectiveness.
Permanently agisted horses – owned by a cross section of Queensland and interstate clients are catered for – as are short term visiting mares
and foals during the breeding season.
The Stud utilises the services of highly respected veterinary surgeon, Max Wilson and staff,
and the Studs owners are sincere in their praise for his equine reproduction abilities.
Over 150 mares arrive at the Stud each year during peak breeding season, and of these approximately
100 are pregnant and their foals first see the light of day at Burwood Stud.
The mares are foaled down using the latest technology of foaling alarms and the like.
Six bores supply water rich in minerals and calcium to the stock, and six large dams
ensure adequate water supplies are on hand for both additional stock water and irrigation.
Burwood Stud is well known to all major Australian horse
transport companies, and semen transport has added a new dimension to harness racing
breeding and now brings Burwood Stud's four highly credentialed stallions within the
reach of all Australian and New Zealand breeders.
Geographically located 48 kilometres from Toowoomba, Burwood Stud
is situated in close proximity to a conglomerate of Queenslands largest harness racing and
thoroughbred Studs. By road, it is best accessed by turning from the main street of Pittsworth
(Yandilla Street) into Golfcourse Road and following this road for 6 kilometres at
which point the front entrance to the Stud is clearly signposted.
